DPP ECFA referendum ad

With free English translation by Tim Maddog

Taiwan's DPP has a great ad to enlighten the public about the lies being told by President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) about an Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) which his government insists will be signed with China. See what Ma says about "sovereignty," and compare it to the direct words of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (溫家寶) about "complete unification" [sic -- the correct word is "annexation" (併吞)]. Cringe in horror as you hear Taiwan's Premier Liu Chao-shiuan (劉兆玄) "explain" why he can't talk about the details of this ECFA.

Here it is with English titles (original version below):

To be clear, only the titles, a slight delay at the beginning, and a fade out at the end are of my doing. The rest came to me via my teevee.

Thanks for the video, the comment by the Premiere is actually really depressing.

I think that the DPP does indeed have internal problems, however, I imagine that if they had money to put out ads all the time, they would be in much better shape.

Let's be honest. While chilling, the contradictions of Ma, Liu and other KMT bigwigs should be enough to make them a laughing stock. We're not talking about minor flip-flopping or dissimulation. The stuff that is in this commercial is almost weekly fare.

What the DPP needs is a good story teller and the money to pay for that story teller. It's when funds are short that you see petty outburst type protests.

Commercials like this SHOULD be airing constantly. Of course, I SHOULD be paid over a million dollars a year....

What would be some other good ideas for commercials? How about Yeh's outburst at the WHA meeting? How about quotes from the articles of that "high-class mainlander"? How about a speaker repeating Ma's comment that referendums are not practical because they have a high rate of failure, then reminding the listener that the KMT has been responsible for the failure of all referendums to date? Or how about juxtaposing footage of Ma saying that he won't run for Taipei mayor and he won't run for KMT chairman with the opposite?

Yeah, some of these are better for an election year, and these events are common news, but if only the money were there, oh the difference it could make in the public's perception of Ma to remind the public constantly of the actual and repeated lies and half truths.
